The Public Affairs Office facilitates communication between Middlebury College and the public, as well as the College's various external constituencies, with the goals of creating visibility for Middlebury and presenting the College in a positive light. The office serves as the key point of contact between the College and the news media, and the director of public affairs serves as college spokesperson.

Public Affairs acts as a liaison between the College and the local community and state government, and monitors higher education issues at the state and national levels.

The office also coordinates College photography, and publicizes events, programs, and selected students, faculty, and staff to off-campus constituents.
