Primary Purpose

Assists in all areas of technical theatre production with the exception of costumes.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

* Must be able to coordinate effectively with Theatre Department directors, designers, and other technical staff. Must be able to work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors.



Master Electrician


*Acts as Master Electrician for faculty shows, supervising or performing the hang, circuiting, troubleshooting, and focus of light plots.


Responsible for maintenance of Wright Theatre and Studio Theatre lighting inventory.


Responsible for lending lighting equipment and accessories to campus and community organizations.



Instruction


Shares responsibility for teaching technical theater lab sessions.


Shares responsibility for teaching technical theater skills to student employees.


Shares responsibility for evaluating students enrolled in lab sessions in conjunction with Theatre Design Faculty.


Acts as Technical Advisor for 1st Year Show.


Works with Faculty Set/Lighting Professor to address lecture sections of Production Studio course.



Scene Shop/Theater Supervision


Supervises students working in the theaters and shops.


Shares responsibility for creating a safe work environment in the theaters and shops.


Assists in maintenance of production equipment and workspaces.


Assists in maintenance of sound equipment.


Assists in purchasing supplies and equipment.


Acts as primary Technical Advisor for the Theatre Department's use of Hepburn Zoo.


Supervises Theatre Department majors' independent projects in Wright Theatre and the Seeler Studio Theatre.



Assistant Technical Direction/Production


Assists in planning and building faculty productions.


Assists in preparing for and supervising technical rehearsals and performances of faculty productions.


Assists in providing technical support for visiting theater productions.


Undertakes special projects as required, e.g., coordinating technical aspects of the American College Theatre Festival tour.


In the absence of the technical director, shares full responsibility of all duties described above with other technical staff. Performs other duties as requested.



LANGUAGE SCHOOLS


Shares responsibility for all aspects of designing, building, and organizing Language School theater productions (7 to 9 shows in WMT), including properties, scenery, painting, lighting, and sound.

Education & Training

B.F.A. or B.A. in theater.

Experience

At least 2 years of professional experience in summer stock, regional, or academic theater. Experience in planning and organizing daily work in order to meet deadlines. Experience in standard theater shop practices, including drafting, theater carpentry (using hand, power, and pneumatic tools), theater rigging (hemp and counterweight), and safety equipment and procedures.


Experience as Master Electrician. Experience in lighting design. Experience in maintaining light and sound equipment and control systems.


Experience in teaching and supervising students. Experience in working collaboratively with designers and directors.

Knowledge

Standard theater shop practices: drafting; theater carpentry; theater rigging, includng hemp and counterweight systems; knowledge of safety equipment and procedures.


Theater lighting systems, including troubleshooting and repair; sound and light systems maintenance.


Computer literate, including CAD, spreadsheets, databases, word processing, graphics programs, and Lightwright and MacLux Pro.


Basic repair and maintenance of power tools.


Personnel time, money, and materials management and organization.

Other

This position requires working closesly with students and requires skills in instructing and supervising. This position requires collaborating closely with designers, directors, faculty, and other staff. This position requires the ability to schedule and organize oneself and others in order to meet deadlines. This position requires working during evenings and weekends to support production.
