Hepburn is a five-story residence hall in Brainerd Commons housing mainly sophomores and juniors. It is in close proximity to laundry and dining facilities as well as the McCullough Student Center. Hepburn is situated at the top of the hill, between Mead Chapel and Stewart Hall. Housing 164 students, , Hepburn Hall also offers several study lounges, a large central lounge for Commons Council meetings, a classroom, and the production office for the student weekly newspaper, The Middlebury Campus. The highlight of the building is a black box theatre nicknamed the "Zoo", where 20 student productions or more take place each year.
History
Built in 1916 to satisfy the urgent need for a more modern, fireproof dormitory, this gift of A. Barton Hepburn, class of 1871, was built of yellow brick. It housed Hepburn's hunting trophies in the room above the lounge, now the Hepburn Zoo.
