The Duke Nelson Arena was home to Middlebury's men's and women's varsity ice hockey for 50 years. The arena hosted the 1995 and 1997 NCAA Division III National Championship, as well as the 1996, 1997 and 1998 ECAC Alliance Championship. This facility was completely renovated in 2001, and renamed the Nelson Recreation Center. The facility now includes an indoor climbing wall and multi-purpose courts that are lined for tennis, basketball, squash, and volleyball.
History
In 1950, the roof of the building was blown off in a hurricane, but was quickly replaced.
