Nora is a Russian major who spent the fall semester and winter term of her junior year in Siberia.

My mother told me that when I went to college, I would finally start to narrow down my interests and decide what I wanted to be when I grew up. But the opposite has proven true. First, there is the diversity of courses. By the end of my sophomore year, I had already taken classes ranging from Russian to Swahili, and from plant ecology to the history of American musical theater. Each class has had professors that I respect and peers with eager questions.

As a singer, Middlebury has stretched my love of music; here I have found an incredible choir, voice teacher, and opportunities to sing ranging from Mozart operas to folk songs crooned with friends.

The Ultimate Frisbee team constantly expands my athletic and social horizons and my student jobs at the Center for the Arts and have taught me the inner workings of the administration. And then there are the weekends that develop my love of the outdoors: trips hiking, camping, swimming, even skydiving.

The Middlebury community of peers, friends, co-workers, professors, and townspeople supports every new thing I try, without closing any doors. So maybe I just need another 10 years here to finally find where I'm headed.
