Dean Spears sent the following message to all students on Friday, March 14:

Dear Students:

As we approach spring break, I write to remind you of some of the services and resources that are available on campus during the period from Friday evening, March 21, to Monday morning, March 31.  I know that most of you plan to be away from campus during break, and I hope your travels and vacations are safe and relaxing.  Nevertheless, some of you will remain on campus, working on theses or catching up on other work.

So here are a few reminders:

  • During break, dorms remain locked and can be entered only by card access.  Public Safety will be available 24 hours a day, and officers make regular patrols across campus on a regular schedule day and night.  Atwater dining hall will be open (with some modification in hours); other dining halls are closed.  Other facilities, such as athletics and library services, also operate on modified schedules.  Please check the web for times and days of operation.
  • Most Commons offices are open during break.  But note that FYCs, RAs, and CRAs are not on duty, and Commons Deans are not regularly available. The Center for Counseling and Human Relations, as well as the Health Center are closed.  Midd Rides does not operate during break.
  • If you need emergency care, or you see that another student does, please direct your calls to Public Safety at 5911, call town emergency services at 911, or go directly to Porter Hospital emergency room.  Throughout the week, a dean from the Dean of the College office is available for consultation if problems should arise. To reach the on-call dean, call Public Safety at 5911.
  • We consider our campus to be safe and secure.  However, please take reasonable precautions if you stay on campus during break.  If you walk across campus or into town at night, do so in pairs or groups.  Make sure your friends and family know where you will be during break and, if you leave campus, be sure to let them know know where you are going and when you expect to be back.  Keep your dorm room locked when you are not there. Keep an eye out for friends and hall mates. Check up on each other.

If you have any immediate questions or concerns about services, please call the department of interest, or call the Dean of the College Office at 5382. During break, please direct your questions to Public Safety at 5911.

Have a safe, productive, and relaxing break.

Tim Spears
