To the Middlebury College Community:
As President Liebowitz noted in his communication last week on College finances, Middlebury College is offering a voluntary early retirement program (ERP) to staff members who have met certain age, length of service, and other criteria.
The purpose of this program is to give staff additional flexibility in planning their retirements while at the same time achieving necessary staff position reductions through voluntary means to prevent or minimize the need for future involuntary terminations. The ERP provides incentives to encourage eligible employees to voluntarily end employment with the College.
The Office of Human Resources (HR) has reviewed employment records and identified those employees who meet the selection criteria. Employees who were not selected can request a record review by contacting their HR Generalist.
An information packet, including a letter, program description, and an application form, will be mailed to each eligible employee on February 2, 2009.
Eligible employees will have until February 23, 2009, to apply.
Please refer to the specific application instructions in the information packet. After submitting an application for the ERP, each employee will receive personalized information about the ERP, and an ERP letter agreement to review. An employee will then have 45 days to consider signing the letter agreement; after which the employee will have 7 days to change his or her mind and revoke the agreement.
