The Nov. 21 edition of the Burlington Free Press ran an editorial piece, "College Reaps Benefits," about President John McCardell and his achievements as president. On Nov. 18, President McCardell announced he was stepping down from his current position in June 2004.
In the Oct. 30 edition of the Burlington Free Press, there is a story on the front page of the Outside section about the symposium "Inspiration and Perspiration" that took place the same day. The symposium was organized by Scholar-in-Residence in Environmental Studies Bill McKibben and included Professor of English Jay Parini as one of the speakers. Both Bill and Jay were quoted in the story and both were in photographs accompanying it.
Benjamin F. Wissler Professor of Physics Rich Wolfson wrote the "It's My Turn" column, titled "Global warming is real and serious," in the Burlington Free Press on Sept. 4.
In the Thursday, August 8, edition of The Burlington Free Press, several stories about former Vermont Senator Bob Stafford '35, whose 90th birthday is today, included an article titled "Middlebury Endows Stafford Professorship." Provost Ron Liebowitz was quoted a number of times.
On Friday, Jan. 3, an opinion piece by Stephen Trombulak, "Wilderness is valuable in its own right," appeared in The Burlington Free Press. The piece includes a number of reasons why roads damage the wilderness and the animals that live there.
On April 3, two articles on the College's economic impact study ran on the Money page. One of the articles stated that Middlebury College generates more than $125 million a year for the town's economy and almost 2,000 jobs in Addison County directly and indirectly.
