An Associated Press article titled "For students studying abroad, shock is often greater coming back" appeared in at least 52 newspapers and media Web sites across the country on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30.  The article's main focus is Middlebury College.  The story, which was written by a reporter based in the AP Boston bureau, quotes three Middlebury students--Mary Hiebert '05, Gale Berninghausen '05 and Brian Fink '05--and Director of Off-Campus Study David Macey.  The accompanying photo of the three students quoted was taken from inside the new library.  The Detroit News included the article and photo on its Web site on Oct. 29--the text is available at http://www.detnews.com/2004/schools/0410/30/schools-319939.htmand. The remaining newspapers included Newsday, Kansas City Star, Seattle Post Intelligencer, San Jose Mercury News, and the Baltimore Sun.

The BioBus continues to attract attention.  Yesterday, MSNBC's Web site included the Associated Press story on the BioBus, titled "Students power bus with vegetable oil."  The link to the story is http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6130915/.  Yesterday, the Carlisle Sentinel (Carlisle, Penn.) also ran an editorial, "Students Pushing Alternative Fuel," which refers to the Associated Press story.  The text is on the paper's Web site at http://www.cumberlink.com/articles/2004/10/01/editorial/editorial/daily01.txt.

Student Britton Keeshan reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 24, becoming the youngest person to climb the tallest peaks on all seven continents.  An Associated Press story that ran on the wires on May 25 identifies Britton as a Middlebury College student.  The story was picked up by several media Web sites, including Newsday, and appeared in hard copy editions on May 26.

The Associated Press ran a story, "Rare Snake Is Rediscovered in Vermont," that was picked up by Washingtonpost.com on February 21 and by abcnews.go.com on February 20.  The story states, "Middlebury College snake expert Jim Andrews found tow live Eastern racers and a dead specimen with the help of students from a Vermont Audubon Society camp."  Now Biology Research Supervisor Jim Andrews and State of Vermont officials hope that the snake will be placed on the endangered species list.
