The New York Times Nov. 12 edition included a very favorable review titled "Many Ways of Being Human, Some Older Than History" which describes "Asian Games: The Art of Contest," a show at the Asia Society of some 200 objects spanning 2,000 years.  The show was organized by Colin Mackenzie, Middlebury College Robert P. The Times also ran an article on Nov. 3 titled "In a Game of Shirts and Skins, They'd Be the Skins" that mentions Middlebury College in the first sentence.  The article is about a group of Hamilton College students that has streaked on the campuses of other schools, including Middlebury.

Visiting Lecturer in Italian Stefano Mula and Assistant Professor of History Louisa Burnham were mentioned in the Sept. 19 issue of The New York Times Magazine in the column "The Ethicist."  They had corrected the columnist on a point he had made in a previous column.

College Professor and President Emeritus John M. A June 27 story in The New York Times described the Middlebury Wedding of Nina Rowe, 36, a medieval art historian, and identified her as a former visiting professor at Middlebury.

A June 20 article in The New York Times, "Esther Williams, Eat Your Heart Out," described an underwater film installation at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Mass., created by Laurie McLeod '77.  Middlebury College is mentioned as the place where she became interested in dance.

A letter to the editor of The New York Times by Dixie Dillon '05, which mentioned volunteerism among college students in general and at Middlebury, was published on June 15

Professor of English Jay Parini wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Times that was published May 25.

The New York Times Fashion and Style Section ran an article titled "O, Khaki Pants!  O, Navy Blazer!" on Sunday, May 9.  The story is about Spencer Reese, who is the assistant manager of a Brooks Brothers store in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl.,  and the current winner of the Bakeless Prize for new authors, an award presented by the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference.

In the Wednesday, March 31, edition of The New York Times, an article about Manhattanville College titled "College uses sports to raise image and lure men," quotes President John McCardell and mentions that he "recently championed a package of rule changes that could shift the tenor of Division III athletics."

On March 25, The New York Times noted in its "College Hockey Report" that both the Middlebury men's and women's hockey teams had won the NCAA Division III championships and suggested that Middlebury, Vt., might want to consider calling itself "Hockeytown East."

A March 20 New York Times article, "Times Scholarships Reward Achievement and Sacrifice," include a description of Dado Derviskadic, who has been accepted to Middlebury and who is one of 20 young people chosen to receive a New York Times College Scholarship,  which provides recipients with a $30,000 four-year scholarship, a summer job, and a mentor.  The article describes the hardships and losses many of the scholarship winners, including Dado, have endured.  The article also states that Dado, who is originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, hopes to study Japanese.

Middlebury College was mentioned in an interview that Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist had with The New York Times, which ran the interview on March 6 on page A17.  The topic was Rehnquist's new book, "Centennial Crisis" (Alfred A. Knopf).  The chief justice makes a reference to his "son-in-law, who is a professor and administrator at Middlebury College" (Associate Dean of Faculty and Associate Professor of American Literature and Civilization Tim Spears).

Professor of Political Science Eric Davis was quoted twice in a March 3 New York Times article titled "Out of the Running, Dean wins a Primary: Vermont's."
