News of the signing of the affiliation agreement between Middlebury and the Monterey Institute of International Studies was covered in the Dec. 5 edition of The Burlington Free Press as an "In Brief" item.

The Burlington Free Press ran an Oct. 14 story from The Associated Press titled "Middlebury College selling Route 7 land." The news about the sale of the Maple Manor property also appeared in the Addison Independent and on Boston.com. For the Boston.com story, click here.

In conjunction with ESPN's "50 States 50 Days" series, ESPN.com created a survey listing the greatest sports rivalries in Vermont, including the Middlebury-Norwich hockey rivalry. An article in the Aug. 14 edition of the Burlington Free Press, "ESPN ready for Vermont stop," mentions Middlebury and the survey. "It's Go Time" discusses the Vermont Go Club, which, as the article states, "was founded in 1986 by Peter Schumer, a math professor at Middlebury College. Schumer, 51, also teaches a class on Go at Middlebury. He said he has been playing for 30 years, but is still learning." The article also quotes Peter. The story appeared in the July 30 edition of The Burlington Free Press.

An Aug. 3 story in the Free Press, "Political Parini," discusses Professor of English Jay Parini's new book of poetry, "The Art of Subtraction." Read the story here.

A new map of Lake Champlain's underwater terrain that was unveiled on July 7 at Middlebury College was the topic of an editorial in the July 8 edition of The Burlington Free Press.  The Free Press also ran an article about it.  The map was produced based on a survey of the lake by Pat and Tom Manley of the geology department, their students, and other members of the research survey team.  The map was unveiled by President Liebowitz and Sen. Leahy. 

Middlebury's intention to affiliate with the Monterey Institute was  covered by the May 25 edition of the The Burlington Free Press, in an article titled "Monterey Trustees OK Middlebury Deal."  

The Associated Press' article on the "What Works? New Strategies for a Melting Planet" conference on Jan. 25-27 was picked up on Thursday, Jan. 26, by the Burlington Free Press, the Rutland Herald, the WCAX-TV Web site, and Boston.com, where the text is available at here.
