In the Sept. 25 edition of the Rutland Herald, an article titled "Native peoples panel warns of impacts from climate change" covered one of the panels from the Clifford Symposium. Middlebury College senior Thomas Hand is working on an energy efficiency program in his hometown of Manchester, Vt., that was mentioned on Sept. 19 in the Rutland Herald. According to Thomas Hand, the program was developed at Green Mountain College and refined in Middlebury's Environmental Studies Class 211 in the fall of 2004. He says the main goal is to get 40,000 energy efficient light bulbs into Manchester homes -- the largest such campaign to date in Vermont and maybe even the country. The Rutland Herald covered the unveiling at Middlebury on July 7 of a new map of Lake Champlain's underwater terrain.  The map was produced based on a survey of the lake by Pat and Tom Manley of the geology department, their students, and other members of the research survey team.  Media attended a press conference in the Great Hall of McCardell Bicentennial Hall, where the map was unveiled by President Liebowitz and Sen. Professor of Political Science Eric Davis has been busy speaking with the media about Vermont politics since Sen. Jeffords announced he would not seek re-election in 2006. Eric was quoted in the Sunday, April 30, Rutland Herald article, "Douglas will pass up bid for U.S. Senate" ( http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050430/NEWS/504300379/1004 ), and has also been quoted in an Associated Press article that was picked up by Boston.com on (http://www.boston.com/news/local/vermont/articles/2005/04/20/jeffords_retirement_sets_up_scramble_for_top_offices/) April 20 as well as an article in The Hill on April 21 (http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/042105/jeffords.html).

Middlebury and Rudolph Giuliani were also the subject of an article titled "Giuliani degree sparks uproar in Middlebury" that appeared in the April 30 edition of the Rutland Herald.  The story, which is below and on the paper's Web site at http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050430/NEWS/504300381/1004, was picked up on May 1 by the Associated Press and then by the Web sites of many other media outlets, including the Washington Post, Minneapolis Star-Tribune, New York Newsday, and San Francisco Chronicle.  The article also appeared in the Sunday, May 1, hard copy edition of the Burlington Free Press

On Thursday, Feb. 17, an op-ed piece by Assistant Professor of Economics Jon Isham was published in the Providence Journal.  The piece was about the current grassroots climate change movement that is taking place and how this movement's diversity was reflected in the conference he organized on campus in January, "What Works?
