Middlebury College is mentioned in the Aug. 21/Aug. 28 double issue of Newsweek in an article titled the "25 New Ivies," which is a list of schools meant to serve as alternatives to both the Ivies and to small, competitive schools such as Middlebury. The first paragraph of the article states, "Smaller liberal arts colleges—like Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Swarthmore and Wesleyan—were the destinations of choice for top students who preferred a more intimate campus." The article is available online.

In the May 22 issue of Newsweek, a story titled "The Fine Art of Letting Go" mentions a survey of Middlebury first-year students regarding their communication with their parents conducted by Associate Professor of Psychology Barbara Hofer and one of her students, senior Elena Kennedy. Barbara is quoted several times, and statistics from the Middlebury survey appear in enlarged type in the article. Barbara's quotes are highlighted. The article is also available online.
