An article titled "So the Torah Is a Parenting Guide?" in the Sunday, Oct. 1, edition of The New York Times Magazine features Middlebury class of 1974 graduate and Los Angeles clinical psychologist Wendy Mogel. The article highlights her approach to parenting as explained in her recent book, "The Blessing of a Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children." The Middlebury College Museum of Art's exhibit of Sumerian antiquities, "Treasures from the Royal Tombs of Ur," was highlighted in the Sunday, Sept. 24, travel section of The New York Times in the "Comings and Goings" column. Scholar in Residence in Environmental Studies Bill McKibben was quoted at the end of a story in the New York Times on May 30 titled the "The Greener Guys" about U.S. businesses trying to reduce carbon emissions.

In the May 21 edition of the New York Times, an article in the Job Market section titled "Hoping to Get on the Fast Track, Students Turn to Career Coaches" mentions Middlebury College and Robert Borden '05.  The text is available online.

In the May 6 edition of the New York Times Book Review, an article titled "'The Doctor's Daughter': Hilma Wolitzer's Novel After 12-Year Writer's Block" mentions the "Bread Loaf writers colony in Middlebury, Vt."

The May 5 edition of the New York Times includes an opinion piece by Frank Winkler titled "Stardust Memories." The piece discusses the 1,000-year anniversary of the sudden appearance of a star that is part of the southern constellation Lupus, the wolf. In his piece Frank states, "Within a few days it brightened and became what was probably the brightest star ever witnessed in recorded human history — an event that astronomers today recognize as a supernova, the cataclysmic explosion that marks the death of a massive star."  Frank is identified as a professor of physics at Middlebury College. 

The Wednesday, April 26, edition of the New York Times included an article titled "At Decision Time, Colleges Lay On Charm" featuring several quotes from Middlebury College Dean of Admissions Bob Clagett.

A March 26 article in the New York Times on New Jersey Assemblyman Albio Sires, who is seeking election to the United States House of Representatives, mentions his attendance at the Language Schools in 1984 to pursue a master's degree in Spanish.

Sue Halpern is identified as a scholar in residence at Middlebury College at the end of a review she wrote of Allegra Goodman's book "Intuition." The review appeared in the Mar. 5 edition of the New York Times Book Review.

Middlebury College is mentioned in an article titled "Confessing to the Converted," which ran on page one of the business section of the Feb. 19 New York Times. The subject of the article is the author of "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man," John Perkins '67, who attended Middlebury for a year and a half. He mentions this fact in the book. The article happens to be written by Landon Thomas Jr. '87. The full text is available here.

Middlebury College Christian A. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Economics David Colander was mentioned in a New York Times article in the business section on Friday, Jan. 27. The article, titled "Students Are Leaving the Politics Out of Economics," included a photo of David, quoted him and mentioned a study he had conducted.

Middlebury was mentioned in a Jan. 22 New York Times article titled "Start with an E-Mail to 511 People..." about alumnus Otis Hart '01 and his successful effort to find three roommates, including Mark Davis '05, to share a four-bedroom apartment with him in Brooklyn.

Middlebury was mentioned twice in the The New York Times on Jan. 8 in the Education Life section. The subject of one short article on page 43, titled "Science Then and Now," is "Early Scientific Instruments: Exhibiting Artifacts From Middlebury's First Century," a winter term course taught by Professor of Physics Frank Winkler, who is quoted, and Ken Pohlman, museum designer at the Middlebury College Museum of Art, who is also quoted. The article includes a photo of one of the scientific instruments included in the exhibit.

The other New York Times Education Life article, "The Greening of America's Campuses" on page 20, mentioned Middlebury's use of wood from local forests in construction projects.
