Erik Bleich is an associate professor of political science at Middlebury College. He joined the faculty in 1999 and teaches courses on race, west European politics, and ethnic diversity and conflict.

His current research focuses on state responses to racial, ethnic and religious violence.  In recently published work, he examined British, German and French policies toward racist violence, the construction and politicization of German's hate-crime statistics, European Union policies against racism, and the commonalities among British, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish responses to the rising associations between violence and Islam.

Bleich graduated from Brown University in 1991 and received his master's and doctorate from Harvard University. He also received a Certificat d'Etudes Politiques from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris in 1990.
