David Colander is the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Economics at Middlebury College. He joined the faculty in 1982 and teaches courses on macroeconomic theory and the history of economic thought.
Colander gives reporters and columnists at national news organizations background and analysis on economic topics. He has written for or been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and USA Today. He has published over 30 books and 80 articles.
Colander is currently working on a book that spells out what can be hoped for from policy when the economy is conceived of as a complex system. He argues that classical economists such as John Stuart Mill had it right, but that their vision has been lost by modern economists and politicians on both the left and the right.
He has a doctorate in economics from Columbia University.
