Margaret Nelson is the Hepburn Professor of Sociology at Middlebury College. She teaches courses on women and gender studies and sociology of family, education and poverty.
Her research focuses on families in rural areas, single mothers, surveillance, and contemporary parenting practices among the middle class.
Nelson graduated from Swarthmore College and received her master's and doctorate from Columbia University.
