Middlebury is an independent, residential, liberal arts college with 2,350 students and a distinctly international character. Students and faculty come from approximately 70 foreign countries, and about 60 percent of our students study abroad during their college careers, either at Middlebury's Schools Abroad, in 11 different countries, or at other approved programs.
The Middlebury College Language Schools operate every summer, offering instruction in nine languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Our 350-acre main campus offers spectacular views of Vermont's Green Mountains to the east and New York's Adirondack Mountains to the west. Nearby is the 1,800-acre Bread Loaf mountain campus, where Middlebury operates the Bread Loaf School of English and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference each summer. In the winter, students can enjoy nordic and alpine skiing at the Rikert Ski Touring Center and the Middlebury College Snow Bowl.
