First-Year Seminars are thematic courses that approach an area of intellectual inquiry from a perspective that attempts to make connections among a number of the traditional disciplines. The professor of the course also serves as academic advisor to the students until they choose a major. The First-Year Seminars, which are normally limited to a maximum enrollment of 15 students, are also writing-intensive courses.
