Peninsular Literature
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese invites applications for a tenure track position in Spanish, beginning September 2009. Candidates’ areas of specialization should include literature and culture of Spain from the end of the Golden Age (1781) until the beginning of the First World War: The Enlightenment, Goya, the Romantic period, Realism, Naturalism and the so-called Generation of 1898 would be some of the course topics that could be added to the departmental curriculum. A strong background in drama of the period would also be welcome. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching language courses at all levels, and should be able to teach in English and contribute to the college curriculum outside the department. Candidates should be interested in teaching students from diverse backgrounds and producing scholarship that will enhance a diverse faculty and curriculum. Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor (Ph.D) or instructor (ABD). Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly work.
