The Dana Scholarships, announced at the beginning of each academic year, commemorate Charles A. Dana, a generous supporter of higher education and Middlebury College. In addition to the gift that made possible the construction of Dana Auditorium, Dana also wished that the College single out for distinction students who, early in their College careers, proved themselves both as scholars and as leaders in their class. With this honor, the College recognizes their record of academic achievement and their potential for leadership and accomplishment.
