Admission
Applicants for admission to the DML program must have received a Master of Arts degree in French, German, Italian, Russian, or Spanish, and must be sufficiently proficient to do graduate level work in another of these languages. It is expected that the MA language will become the principal DML language. With permission of the Vice President for Language Schools, Schools Abroad and Graduate Programs, a student who has the requisite language proficiency may substitute an MA in a related field, such as linguistics or comparative literature. The deadline for applying to the DML program is April 15. Following acceptance to the program, the applicant submits a proposed topic (in the target language) and preliminary bibliography of no more than one page (primarily in the target language) to the office of the Vice President(electronically) by May 1, to be approved by the Director of the first language School before the beginning of the summer session, along with an enrollment deposit.
