Gerardo Gutiérrez Cham
Gerardo Gutiérrez Cham,
from Mexico, received his
Licenciatura en Letras Hispanoamericanas
from the University of Guadalajara, and his Ph.D. in General Linguistic and Discourse Analysis from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Cham, who is a member of the National System of Researchers, is a professor in the Department of Studies in Indigenous Languages at the Universidad de Guadalajara, where he also coordinates the Postgraduate Program in Applied Linguistics. His current research focuses on the analysis of different discourses in the Mexican press of the XIX and XX centuries. His books include:
Theory of Discourse
(2003),
Analysis of the journalistic discourse: The conflict of Chiapas in the Newspaper “El País”
(2004), and
Critical Discourse Analysis: Race and Gender
(co-authored 2007). He has also published fictional works including
El cuaderno de Liszt
(1994).
Viaje a los olivos
(1998), and
Bajo la niebla de París
(2005). In 1990, Cham obtained the First Prize for Short Story at the “Feria Internacional del Libro”, and in 1993 he was a finalist for the “Premio Internacional Planeta-Joaquín Mortiz”.
