Why do I need my Middlebury College ID or guest borrower ID to check out books?

Using your ID is the only way to guarantee that we are accessing the correct record. The ID is the best way to do that. Also, this ensures that errors are not made while typing in names or ID numbers.

What kind of equipment may I borrow from the library?

Is there a limit to how many items I can check out?
A:
Yes.
If you are a student, faculty, or staff, the limit is so high that we challenge you to reach it.
However, there is a limit of 3 reserve items at one time.
If you are a guest borrower or alumni, there is a 25 item limit.

I received a notice saying that one of my items has been recalled. What does this mean?
A:
An item gets recalled when it is needed by another borrower. In some cases, items are recalled so that they can be placed on reserve for a class. Your prompt attention to the new due date in the notice is greatly appreciated.

Is eating or drinking allowed in the library?
A:
Yes, eating and drinking are allowed. However, we encourage you to cover drink containers and dispose of all trash. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in all academic buildings on campus. Snacks and drinks are available from Rehearsals in the Center for the Arts, the Wilson Cafe in the Main Library, as well as from vending machines. Vending machines are also available in Armstrong Library.

Can I get a job working for the library?

Do Government Documents circulate?
A:
Yes, most government documents circulate for 28 days. Some selected titles are library use only, but the vast majority of the collection does circulate.
