Special Collections staff are responsible for the Abernethy Collection of American Literature, the College Archives, Rare Books and Manuscripts, the Helen Hartness Flanders Ballad Collection, and the Vermont Collection. These collections offer a variety of rare, unique and primary-source materials to complement the curriculum.

The new CTLR integrates several campus resources: the First-Year Seminar Program, the Writing Program, academic advising, faculty support for teaching and research, peer tutoring, the Office of Learning Resources, and the office of Sponsored Research. The Center aims to offer services that enrich learning and teaching at Middlebury and to encourage conversations about excellence and innovation in a residential liberal arts education.

Group Viewing Rooms (240 A&B)

ROOM CAPACITY: 10

For use by reservation only. 3 person minimum. Academic use only. You may reserve this room at the Information Desk.


Two group-viewing rooms each have a 42" plasma screen with surround sound for film screenings. Each room is equipped with region-free DVD, VHS (U.S. and International formats) and Laserdisc players.  Contact the Information Desk (x2000) to reserve these rooms.

Group Study Rooms (150 A-D and 301 A-F)

ROOM CAPACITY: 6

For use by 2 or more people. Reserve this room in advance at the Information Desk.

Six group study rooms are located on the Upper Level of the Library, these are first come, first served.  The Four group study rooms on the Lower Level are equipped with a 22" LCD display and a multi-port VGA switch, allowing you to connect multiple laptops and easily collaborate by switching between them.  Contact the Information Desk (x2000) to reserve a Group study on the lower level (150 A-D).

Meeting Room (145)

ROOM CAPACITY: 16
This meeting room is equipped with an LCD projector with a laptop connection, DVD player (region-free), and VCR (U.S. and International formats).  Contact the Information Desk (x2000) to reserve this room.
