The primary purpose of this data is to draw the boundaries of new Congressional districts, but it is invaluable for other research as well. 1990 Census of Population and Housing. Public Use Microdata Samples These files contain a sample of individual long-form census records showing must population and housing characteristics but with identifying information removed. The "A" sample contains records for 5% of the population and the geographic areas covered include county groups, counties, county subdivisions, and places with 100,000 or more population. The "B" sample contains records for 1% of the population, and the geographic coverage is for metropolitan areas and other large areas with 100,000 or more population. Housing items include occupancy/vacancy status, tenure, units in structure, contract rent, meals included in rent, value and number of rooms in housing unit. Current Population Survey, 1989- This product is the source of official Government statistics on employment and unemployment. National Geochronological and Natural Radioelement Data Bases The NGDB contains more than 30,000 individual published ages of rocks and minerals in the United States. A program is provided to search the data files using the following criteria: 1) latitude and longitude, 2) state name, 3) analytical method, or 4) age of rock or mineral. In addition, the NGDB is also provided in quote-comma delimited files that the user may enter into most commercial spreadsheet programs. The NRDB contains analyses of the natural radioelements (uranium, thorium, and potassium) from more than 8500 whole rocks. U. S. Divisional and Station Climatic Data and Normals Contains a collection of DOS ASCII data files and associated documentation that pertains to U. S. climatic normals and byproducts of the normals. Climatic variables include temperature, precipitation, degree days, and Palmer Drought Index. The information is derived from the archive files at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center. The current normals period is 1961-1990; earlier data is provided for comparison and research. U. S. Exports and Imports of Merchandise (monthly) There are separate disks for exports and imports and data are provided for current month and year to date. Export data includes quantity, value and shipping weight by country of destination and method of transportation. Import data provides net quantity, value and shipping weight data for vessel and air shipments in terms of commodity by country of origin.
