Middlebury Joins ArtStor’s Shared Shelf Project
August 25, 2009
Development of new platform is underway
We’ve made a commitment to work with ArtStor and a small group of other colleges and universities on a shared image management system that ArtStor is calling Shared Shelf. ArtStor is a digital library of images complemented by a set of image-viewing tools. Middlebury researchers already can use this rich collection of more than one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences.
The Shared Shelf project is an effort to "make it practical for institutions, large and small, to combine images created by individuals, those held by the institution, and those in ArtStor's database—and to do so without the need for local on-site infrastructure." Read more about the project in the ArtStor press release.
