Becoming Computer Friendly II (3 sessions) |
8:30 – 9:30 am |
In addition to our advertised workshops, we are happy to arrange training for groups of four or more, time and resources permitting. You supply the group and topic and we'll take care of the rest. Setting up training in this manner gives your group increased scheduling flexibility and allows us to tailor classes to your special needs. Send workshop requests to: helpdesk@middlebury.edu. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS Please note: Basic mouse and computing navigation skills are assumed unless otherwise noted in the workshop description.
BannerWeb for Budget Viewing
Maintaining a budget does not have to be a painful experience. Learn how to create simple BannerWeb views to track your expenditures, retrieve details and keep an eye on the bottom line. Includes ample time for Q&A.
Becoming Computer Friendly II
This workshop is a continuation of Becoming Computer Friendly I intended to review Microsoft Word use as well as build new skills and gain confidence. This class will meet every Thursday from December 7 through 21.
Content Management System (CMS) Basics
In this workshop you'll learn how to navigate within CMS, create new pages, edit existing pages, as well as add photos, tables and links. Many folks who edit CMS pages infrequently have found this to be a good refresher.
CMS News Module
We'll discuss how to create a section of your site for news related press releases. You can set-up multiple news sections that get posted on one central news location. Here's an example.
CMS Work Session
Have you been procrastinating from making those updates to your CMS pages? Can't update your CMS pages because the phone is ringing off the hook? Don't you wish there was someplace quiet and peaceful you could go to work on your CMS pages, uninterrupted? Well, there is! Come to a CMS work session and have someone right there to answer all of your questions and help you with any problems that come up. This will not be a formal workshop; we will answer questions and problems as they come up.
Getting Started With PowerPoint on a PC
Come discover how easily you can create a simple on-line presentation, complete with handouts and speaker notes. You'll learn about PowerPoint's four working views and how to use them to plan, create, and show your own basic presentations.
Hands-on Network Security & Ethical Hacking
We'll be taking a very hands-on look at computer security, examining exactly how your computer gets infected with viruses, joined to Botnets and gets back-doors installed, as well as how they all work from both your perspective and a hacker's. After this class, these problems should (dare we say will?) never again plague your computer. Prerequisite: Network Security/Ethical Hacking Primer or equivalent
Network Security/Ethical Hacking Primer
This two hour class will cover basic computer and network security principals. We’ll start out with easy-to-grasp computer network concepts (answering the question, "how does this network thing work, anyway?") and talk about operating systems and the programs we run using them. From there, we’ll move into topics like viruses, spyware and phishing and then touch on network reconnaissance and hacking techniques. If it sounds intimidating then you should definitely check out this session.
Outlook Jumpstart
This introductory workshop will provide the basic skills you need to work with email successfully using Outlook 2003 on a PC. You'll learn how to read, send and reply to messages, as well as attach files and work with your contacts. You'll also master easy mail management techniques, including folder creation, sorting and filing messages.
