Sometime in early November Microsoft is expected to release a new version of Internet Explorer, IE7. Microsoft plans to release this as an upgrade that would ordinarily update your PC automatically. At this time, we have elected to block this automatic update for faculty and staff. IE7 has not been certified by some of our major software vendors (in particular, Banner, Hyperion and Famis.) While our own local testing has not demonstrated any significant issues using these applications with IE7, we cannot say for certain that users of these applications won't discover problems.
Typically software vendors do certify fairly shortly after release of a new browser version, so we do hope and expect to eventually release IE7 for automatic update although we cannot provide precise timing for this. If you are a user of any of the above-mentioned applications you are strongly encouraged not to manually install IE7 but await certification and eventual automatic update.
Thank you,
