LIS has scheduled extended downtime for this Sunday (August 12th, 2007) from 12:01am until 4:00pm for a major Storage Area Network (SAN) upgrade.

To the Middlebury Community:

LIS has scheduled extended downtime for this Sunday (August 12th, 2007) from 12:01am until 4:00pm for a major Storage Area Network (SAN) upgrade. This SAN provides centralized storage for a number of services. The actual hosts and services impacted are listed below:

Jet Banner Production
Diamond Banner Development and Hyperion Reporting
Blackfly Media Wiki
Gnat Library Find
Hellokitty Heat Server
Horsey ORSEE server for Economics
Oakmont      Filemaker Pro Server V6
Prairedog Reference Desk Manager
Skippy iHeat
Smog Bright Planet Web Server

This upgrade includes a major software revision to the core SAN as well as associated disk drive firmware along with other hardware upgrades. The prerequisites of this upgrade require us to completely shutdown the hosts attached to the storage array and perform cold backups before any upgrade activity starts.

In addition to the hosts and services listed above, The Sharepoint server (diesel) and the MS SQL 2005 server (ivorytower) will be unavailable from approximately 6am-7am and again from 3pm-4pm. We will migrate these services to alternate locations before the major activities begin.
