To the College Community:
Periodically, Library and Information Services performs upgrades to our e-mail servers. During the testing phase of our scheduled upgrade we discovered a serious and dangerous bug in the email program Entourage. After we complete the mail server upgrade and begin moving users' mailboxes, users of Entourage version 11.3.5 or earlier may lose their entire mailbox. In the unfortunate event of a mailbox being lost, LIS can restore it, however this process takes time during which the lost messages are unavailable. Therefore, we urge all users of Entourage to update to the most recent version, 11.3.6, which has no issues. Instructions for updating Entourage are included in this document: Entourage 2004 Serious Bug. In addition, to avoid issues with future upgrades to our servers, we recommend that you make a slight change to the Entourage configuration, also outlined in in this document: Entourage 2004 Serious Bug. This appears to be a bug in Entourage, much like one in Entourage version 11.2.0: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909574. The upgrades to our e-mail servers are unavoidable because they increase the security and stability of our system, in addition to adding features that will better serve the community. Do not hesitate to contact the LIS Helpdesk if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. You can reach us by phone (802-443-2200) and e-mail ( helpdesk@middlebury.edu ), or by visiting Room 202 in the Main Library. Thank you for your time. Library and Information Services
