Connected Pages (Connected Postings)
Introduction
Connected Pages allow content to exist in multiple locations and only require one update to edit the content.
Example: Suppose you have two channels, say info_staff and info_faculty where you put content that needs to be read by staff and faculty respectively. Much of the content in the two channels may be different, but some postings could contain the same information. Perhaps there's a posting called directions_to_campus that has to be in both channels. By making directions_to_campus a Connected Page between the channels, if its content is edited in either channel, it will be updated in both channels, cutting your work in half! Making a New Connected Page
Before you make a Connected Page, you need to make a regular posting.
- Pick one of the multiple locations you want the content to reside
- Create a page with the content in that location, just as you would create any other posting.
- After the pagehas been saved and approved, you then can connect it to other locations.
To turn an existing page into a Connected Page: - Navigate to the page on the CMS and log on
- Click Switch to Edit Site in the Edit Console
- Click Create Connected Page in the Edit Console
- Navigate in the channel tree in the new popup window until you find the second channel you want the posting to be in
- Click to highlight the name of that channel, and then the OK button
- Click Save New Page in the Edit Console
- Click OK in the Save New Page dialog
- Click Approve in the Edit Console
Editing a Connected Posting
You can edit the content of a Connected Posting in any of its locations on the CMS. Your updates will be copied to all other connected copies of the posting when you click Save or Save & Exit in the Edit Console. Deleting a Connected Page
If you delete one of the copies of a Connected Page, the other copies will remain in their current locations, published, on the CMS. If you want to delete all copies of a Connected Page: - Navigate to one of the copies on the CMS and log on
- Click Switch to Edit Site in the Edit Console
- Click Go To Connected Pages in the Edit Console
- You will see the dialog window shown below. Click on any of the icons under Go To to view another copy of the Connected Page. You will need to delete each copy to remove all the Connected Pages from the CMS
