Introduction
A channel is very similar in some respects to a directory on your computer, or an entry in an outline with information listed below it in an orderly fashion.
When you want information to appear within a general heading, you should request the creation of a channel in which pages pertaining to it can appear.
Channels can be created within channels, just like an subfolder within a folder, or a subcategory in an outline.
Requesting A New Channel
To request a new channel, contact Tim Etchells with the following information:
- Your name or the name of your Content Provider.
- The URL of the location on the CMS where you would like this new channel. For example:
http://www.middlebury.edu/athletics/newchannel
- The Channel Name, meaning what you want to call the place that holds all of the information. It can have no spaces, commas, periods, or other non-conventional characters.Try to stick to just letters, numbers, and underscores (_). Don't worry if it doesn't look pretty, no one will see this but channel managers and administrators. In the example above, newchannel is the channel name.
- The Channel Display Name is what people using the web site will see, so you want this to be appropriately capitalized, with spaces (yes, you can use spaces here). Apostrophes, apersands (&), and many other special characters can be used, but they cannot be the last character in the Channel Display Name.
- A brief description of what information you will be putting in the channel. Tim may be able to suggest alternative Information Architectures that better suit your data.
Requesting Channel Deletion
To request that a channel be deleted, fill out the Submit a Channel Deletion Request form.
