Move a Page to a different channel

You may not be satisfied with how your content is organized.  This is when you use the Move function. Moving content around in the CMS is actually quite painless!

  • Simply navigate to the page containing the content you want to move
  • Log On if you have not already done so
  • Switch to Edit Mode
  • Click Move in the Edit Console

A dialog box with a "tree" pops up.

  • View a branch's nodes by clicking on the "+" (plus) sign next to the name of the channel
The tree will refresh, revealing the pages/channels within.
  • When you have decided on the content's final destination, click on the name of the channel itself (it will be underlined)
  • Verify in the "Destination Channel" box, and click OK.
  • Refresh the page to make sure the move was made.
  • You will see it in the left navbar in most cases*

*If you move a page to the main channel, say, from /depts/french/faculty to /depts/french, you may not be able to see the page in the left navbar.  This is because the page needs to be important.  See the page properties page to read more about this.

Copy a Page

There may come a time when you need most of the content appearing on another page to appear on a new page.  This is the time you use the Copy feature.  To copy the content from an existing page:

  • Simply navigate to the page containing the content you want to move
  • Log On if you have not already done so
  • Switch to Edit Mode
  • Click Copy in the Edit Console
  • A dialog box with a "tree" pops up, asking you to "Select Destination Channel".  CMS wants to know where to put the new content.

    • Refresh the page to make sure the copy was made.

*Important note:  If you copied the content to the same channel as the original, or if you copied a page containing content which happened to be named "default", you will need to rename the page to prevent confusion. See Editing Page Properties for more information about renaming pages.

Reminder: this content cannot be recovered after you press OK.
