Revision History works like a very sophisticated Undo function, and is available to all Content Provider (CP) Editors and Channel Managers. To access this function, navigate to a page for which you have editing access, then click on the Revision History option in the Edit Console menu.
The initial view
When you click on Revision History, a new window pops up and displays a list of all revisions made to document being viewed.
At the very top left the "Revision Types to List" box displays what kind of revisions made to a page qualify a new revision. By default the "Page content or page properties" box is checked, meaning a change in the words on the page or a change in the page's properties will display as a new revision in the list at the bottom. If you wish to see when a shared resource was modified and applied to the page, check the box to the left and the changes will be displayed below.
Changing the revisions view
To see more revisions than 5 to a page, simply change the number in the dropdown menu to the right and above the lower list of revisions and the list will modify itself accordingly.
The List of revisions
The list at the bottom contains a listing of all revisions made to the document since the last time the history was cleared. A CP Editor or Channel Manager can clear these revisions in the box in the top right, at which point all previous revision history will be deleted.
To preview the differences in the pages, click the Preview button (the icon with the magnifying glass to the left of the display name); a new window pops up displaying that version of the page. To view or adjust the page's properties, click the icon in the Properties column of the lower box.
Comparing revisions
The lower list can in fact contain two lists: the top list will display all unapproved page revisions, either saved or submitted for editor approval; the second shows a list of all previous, approved versions of the page. These lists can be used for comparison and determination of what changes were made each time.
To compare two documents, click in the checkboxes to the left of both of their display names, then go to the top-right box and click on the button Compare. This will pop up a new window.
To select new pages to compare, click Clear and select two new revisions.
Revision Comparison window
The bottom part of the window (maximize this window for the most convenient view) shows the newer version of the page and highlights all changes in two different colors. These colors, by default, are set to Green for additions and Red for deletions. You can change either of these by selecting a new color name in one or both of the dropdown menus in the control panel above the page view.
In this control panel, you can, in addition to change colors to content edits, also view the Source comparison (the code that makes up the page) and also the changes in Page properties. Changes in the properties from the older version to the newer will be marked with an * (asterisk).
