Pressing this button will open the Image Manager dialog, which can be used to insert images that have already been added to Resource Gallery by means of the Resource Manager, or to upload new images to your Resource Gallery. To insert an image in content, place the cursor where you would like the image and click the Image Manager button. Browse Files

The Browse Files tab allows you to look through Resource Galleries you have access to for images you can insert into your content. The pane on the left shows the directory structure of the Resource Galleries. Your list will appear differently depending on which galleries you have access to and where you are editing on the CMS. Click the plus (
) button next to a directory (
) to expand it and see any directories or files inside. Click the minus (
) button next to a directory to collapse it and hide its contents. Click on a file such as a JPEG image (
) to select it. Once selected, the system path to the image will appear in the Image URL text box and the image will appear in the Image Pane to the right of the list of Resource Galleries. Do not modify the text in the Image URL text box.
Refresh Resource List
The Refresh button above the list of Resource Galleries can be used to fetch the most recent list of files in the Resource Galleries. This is useful if you believe a colleague has added a Resource during the time you've been using the Document Manager or Image Manager and you want to add it to your posting. While this button will fetch the current list of files, it will also collapse all expanded directories in thelist of Resource Galleries.
Delete a Resource
The Delete button above the list of Resource Galleries can be used to remove a resource from a Resource Gallery. Click on the Resource in the list and then click this button to delete the Resource. A confirmation dialog will be displayed to assure that you wish to remove the Resource. This button should be used with caution. Deleting a Resource from your Resource Gallery will cause any links to that Resource in any posting's content anywhere on the CMS to break. Confirm with all Content Managers and Authors in your area before deleting a Resource.
Change List Types
We believe these buttons are intended to change the way the list of Resource Galleries is displayed. However, they are not mentioned in the documentation of the tools application we are using and clicking on them doesn't seem to produce any meaningful effect. We recommend that you don't use these buttons.
Best Fit
The Best Fit button will resize the image preview in the Image Pane so that it fits within the viewable area. This button does not affect how the image will be displayed in content.
Actual Size
The Actual Size button will resize the image preview in the Image Pane so that it is shown at its full size. This may make the image too large to fit fully inside the image preview area. This button does not affect how the image will be displayed in content.
Zoom In
The Zoom In button will enlarge the image preview in the Image Pane so that it is displayed larger than was previously shown. This button does not affect how the image will be displayed in content.
Zoom Out
The Zoom Out button will reduce the image preview size in the Image Page so that it is displayed smaller than was previously shown. This button does not affect how the image will be displayed in content. Insert
Pressing the Insert button will close the Image Manager and place the image you have selected in the content at the location of your cursor.
Close
Pressing the Close button will close the Image Manager and no images will be inserted into your content. Upload Attachment

The Upload Attachment dialog allows you to add images to a Resource Gallery, similar to using the Add feature of the Resource Manager. Use the list of Resource Galleries in the Browse Files tab to navigate to the Resource Gallery where you would like to add an image, then click the Upload Attachment tab. The path to the Resource Gallery you selected will be displayed in the Directory text box. To select an imagefrom your computer, click the Browse... button to the right of the File text box. This will open an open file dialog that is specific to your computer. Select the image you wish to upload from your hard drive or a network drive. When you select the image and open it, the local path to the file will be displayed in the File text box. Overwrite Existing Files
If you are uploading a new version of an image that already exists in your Resource Gallery, make sure that the file names are the same and check the Overwrite if file with such name exists? check box. This will replace the old version of the image in the Resource Gallery with the new version of the image you are uploading.
Known Bug: The Image Manager will not overwrite existing files, even if you have checked the Overwrite if file with such name exists?check box. If you want to replace an existing file in a Resource Gallery, you should use the Replace method in the Resource Manager instead.
Upload Restrictions
You cannot upload files larger than 5000KB or five thousand kilobytes (approximately 5MB or five megabytes). To improve the efficiency and size of your documents, read our guides on Save Your Images for the Web and Optimize Your PDF Files for the Web.
Additionally, you can only upload certain types of images using the Image Manager. The list of allowed file extensions is: - *.gif
- *.jpg
- *.jpeg
- *.png
- *.bmp
Upload
Click the Upload button to upload the file in the Filetext box to the Resource Gallery in the Directory text box.
Local Attachment
Local Attachments add Resources to the database representation of postings. This not only reduces the usability of the Resource by limiting it to a single posting, but once attached, these Local Attachments are difficult to remove from the database, leading to extra space being used on the server for documents that may not be in use any more. For these reasons, the Local Attachment tab is disabled. Use the Upload Attachmnet tab or the Resource Manager to add your images to your Resource Galleries.
Image Properties

To change the properties of an image once it is in the content, right click on the image and select Set Image Properties. This will display the Set Image Properties dialog box shown above.
Border Width
This is the width of the border around the image, in pixels. Press the plus (
) or minus (
) buttons to increase or decrease the border size. You can also type a number into the Border Width text box.
Border Color
Changing the color of the border around an image is against the Middlebury College Style Guidelines for the Web Site. Do not use the Border Color drop down dialog. Image Alt Text
The Image Alt Text text box allows you to enter a short description of the image that will be displayed when the user moves their mouse cursor over the image in the content area. This description is also helpful to users with screen readers who cannot see the image.
Long Description
The Long Description text box allows you to enter a long description of the image that is helpful to users with screen readers who canoot see the image.
Image Alignment
The Image Alignment drop down dialog allows you to select the alignment of the image with respect to other content. The Xoption represents no alignment, which will align the image with the text at its location in the content. The other options are as follows (clockwise, beginning at the 12:00 location):
- Top - the baseline of the text will be at the top of the image
- Right - text will flow around the image on its left
- Bottom - the baseline of teh text will be at the bottom of the image
- Left - text will flow around the image on its right
And in the center is the Center option which sets the baseline of the text to the middle of the image and lets text flow to the left and right of the image in equal proportions.
Image Src
The Image Srctext box contains the location of the image in the Resource Gallery. Do not edit the contents of this text box. Additionally, the button to the right of the Image Src text box is non-functional.
Horizontal Spacing
This is the amount of space, in pixels, to the left and/or right of the picture between it and other content. Press the plus (
) or minus (
) buttons to increase or decrease this spacing size. You can also type a number into the Horizontal Spacing text box.
Vertical Spacing
This is the amount of space, in pixels, to the top and/or bottom of the picture between it and other content. Press the plus (
) or minus (
) buttons to increase or decrease this spacing size. You can also type a number into the Vertical Spacing text box.
Width
The Width text box allows you to set the Width of the image, in pixels. Because the design of the Middlebury College Web Site is fixed width, this number should NEVER be set to more than 350. Doing so may cause to site to render incorrectly in some browsers. If the Constrain property is not set, changing the Width may cause the image to become distorted. Height
The Height text box allows you to set the Height of the image, in pixels. If the Constrain property is not set, changing the Height may cause the image to become distorted.
ConStrain
To avoid image distortion, set the Constrain property before changing the value in the Height or Width text boxes. The Constraint property is not set by default. Be careful if you change the Height of the image with the Constrainproperty set that the Width does not exceed 350.
