Creating a Job Description Posting

Step 1: Navigating to the Location of the Posting

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the Job Descriptions web site
  3. Click on the Department for which this Job Descriptionbelongs. 
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Log On
  5. Enter your username and password and click Logon

Step 2: Adding a Job Description Posting

  1. If you are viewing a specially formatted list of Job Descriptions, click Create New Page in the Edit Console and go to step 6.
  2. Click Create New Page (Choose Template) in the Edit Console
  3. Expand 0506 Templates
  4. Click HR
  5. Click the Select icon to the right of JobDescription
  6. If this position is open for hire, click the Active for Hire checkbox
  7. If this position reports to another position, enter the Control Number for the supervisor in the Reports to Control Number text box
    1. If the "Reports To" Control Number does not have a Job Description you may still enter a control number in the Reports to Control Numberfield which will be displayed on the Job Description.
    2. If the "Reports To" Control Number does not have a Job Description you may enter an alternate Job Title and Department in the Alt. Reports To Title and Alt. Reports To Dept. boxes. These will be displayed below the Reports To Control Numberfield, though they will not be hyperlinked, as they would if the Job Description existed.
  8. Select the Location for the job (Middlebury College is the default value)
  9. Enter the date the Job Description was prepared in the Date Prepared text box
  10. If the job is exempt, check the Exemptcheckbox
  11. If the job is a key job, check the Key Job for Pricing checkbox
  12. Select the amount of travel expected for this position from the Travel drop down (No Travel Required is the default value)
  13. Select the expected duration of this position from the Duration drop down (Regular/At-Will Job is the default value)
  14. Enter the level of the position in the Level drop down.
    1. If the level is Not Applicable, which is the default value, the Salary Type will be Not Applicable and the Minimum Salary will be blank
    2. If the leve is Unknown, you will be able to select a value for the Salary Type as well as enter a value for the Minimum Salary.
    3. If a level that is listed as part of Middlebury College's published wage scale, the Salary Typeand Minimum Salary(Hiring Minimum) listed in the wage scale for that level will be chosen automatically.
  15. Select the currency for this position's salary from the Salary Currency drop down (US Dollar is the default value)
  16. Choose a Salary Type, if applicable (Not Applicable is the default value)
  17. Enter a Minimum Salary or Hiring Minimum, if applicable
  18. Enter a Maximum Salaryif applicable
  19. Select the currency for this position's budgeted salary from the Budgeted Currency drop down (US Dollar is the default value)
  20. Enter the Budgeted Salary for this position, if applicable
  21. Select whether or not there is a Per Diemallowance for this position (No is the default value)
  22. Select the EEO Category for this position (Professionals is the default value)
  23. Select the Job Typefor this position (Not specified is the default value)
  24. Select the Job Level(not the Middlebury College Level) for this position (Not specified is the default value)
  25. Select the Business Function for this position (Not specified is the default value)
  26. Select the Industry for this position (Education is the default value)
  27. Select the range of expected Years of Experience for this position (Not applicable is the default value)
  28. Select the expected Level of Education for this position (Unknown is the default value)
  29. Enter the Primary Purpose of this position. You can use simple text styling features in this area
  30. Enter the Responsibilities of this position. You can use simple text styling features in this area. The text "Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors." will be automatically inserted above whatever Responsibilities you enter here.
  31. Enter the Education & Training required for this position. You can use simple text styling features in this area
  32. Enter the Experiencerequired for this position. You can use simple text styling features in this area
  33. Enter the Knowledgerequired for this position. You can use simple text stlying features in this area
  34. Enter any Other information about this position. You can use simple text styling features in this area
  35. Click Save New Page in the Edit Console
  36. Enter a name for this posting in the Nametext box. THE NAME OF THE POSTING MUST BE ITS CONTROL NUMBER 
  37. Enter a display name for this posting in the Display Nametext box. THE DISPLAY NAME OF THE POSTING MUST BE ITS JOB TITLE
  38. Click OK
  39. Click Approve in the Edit Console

Step 3: Finishing

  1. Click Log Off in the Edit Console
  2. Close Internet Explorer

Adding New Departments

Adding a new Department to the job descriptions area required several changes to the script configuration. Please contact Web Services to add a new department. In this email, be sure to give us the name of the department. Please do not add this department to the OpenHire screen, as our feed will automatically update their interface when we upload the new information.

Changing the Department of a Job Description

To change the department of a Job Description, move the posting to a new department channel. The information in the posting will be automatically updated.
