Creating an Athletics News Posting
Step 1: Navigating to the Location of the News Posting
Open
Internet Explorer
Navigate to
http://www.middlebury.edu/athletics
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click
Log On
Enter your username and password and click Logon
If this is a
General News
posting:
Click
Athletics News
in the left navigation column
Click
General News
in the left navigation column
If this is a team-specific news posting:
Click
Varsity Sports
in the left navigation column
Click the name of the sport in the center column
Click
News
in the right navigation column
Step 2: Uploading Photos for a News Posting [If Necessary]
Click
Switch to Edit Site
in the
Edit Console
Click
Resource Manager
in the
Edit Console
If this is a
General News
posting:
Expand
News
Click the academic year for the news posting
If this is a team-specific news posting:
Click the name of the sport
Click the
Add New...
button in the
Resource Manager
window
Click the
Browse...
button in the
Add Resource
window
Navigate to the location of the photo on the hard drive and click on the file
Click
Open
Enter a short description of the photo in the
Description
text box
Click
OK
Close the
Resource Manager
window
Step 3: Adding the News Posting
If you are viewing a specially formatted list of
News Postings
, click
Create New Page
in the
Edit Console
and go to step 6.
Click
Create New Page (Choose Template)
in the
Edit Console
Expand
0506 Templates
Click
News
Click the
Select
icon to the right of
News
If this news item should appear on the main
Athletics
page, click the
Sub-Site Home Page News Item
check box
If this news item is a featured item, which have photos that are 350px wide instead of the normal 120px wide, click the
Featured Item (Large Photo)
check box
Enter a short description of the news item in the
Short Description
text area. This text will be displayed in the news items lists on team news pages and on the main
Athletics
page, if this is a
Sub-Site Home Page News Item
If there is a photo for this
News
posting
Click the
Image Settings
link directly above the
Caption
text area
Click Insert Shared Image
If this is a
General News
posting:
Expand
News
Click the academic year for the news posting
If this is a team-specific news posting:
Click the name of the sport
Locate the photo in the list of resources
Click the
Select
icon to the right og the photo
If the
Alternate Text
field is blank, enter a short description of the photo in the
Alternate Text
box
Click Insert
You may also enter a caption for the photo in the
Caption
text area
If this news posting should redirect the user to a different web page, enter the
URL
of that page in the
URL
text box. When the user clicks this news item in a news items list, they will be moved to that
URL
.
The news posting will not appear in the list of news postings until the date in the
Start Date
text box. This is automatically set to the time you create this posting, meaning that the news item will be shown as soon as the posting is
Saved
and
Approved
. To change this date, click the
Set Date/Time
button below the
Start Date
text box and choose a new date and time from the popup calendar window.
The news posting will not appear in the list of news postings on the main Athletics page past the date in the
End Date
text box. This value has no affect on the team-specific of
General News
lists of news items. To change this date, click the
Set Date/Time
button below the
End Date
text box and choose a new date and time from the popup calendar window.
You may enter the user name of a person who should be listed as a
Contact
for this news item in the
Contact
text area. A person's user name is the first part of their email address, before the @. So the user name of jsmith@middlebury.edu is jsmith.
You may enter a long version of the news story in the
Edit Window
. This text will not be shown in the list of news items, but if the user click on this story in the list, they will be shown this more detailed version of the news item.
Click
Save New Page
in the
Edit Console
Enter a name for the posting in the
Name
text box
Enter a display name for the posting in the
Display Name
text box
Click
OK
Click
Approve
in the
Edit Console
Step 4: Finishing
Click Log Off in the
Edit Console
Close
