Creating a Frequent Asked Questions list
An FAQ list is a channel containing multiple FAQ postings. FAQ channels need to be set up before the postings are created. You can contact Web Services to have a new FAQ channel created for your Frequently Asked Questions. Please help us by providing the following information in your email:
- The URL of the location on the CMS where you would like this channel. For example: http://www.middlebury.edu/athletics/faq
- The Name of the channel, if it should be different than faq
- The Display Name of the channel, if it should be different the Frequently Asked Questions
Step 1: Navigating to the Location of the Posting
- Open Internet Explorer
- Navigate to the channel you asked Web Services to create for your Frequently Asked Questions
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Log On
- Enter your username and password and click Logon
Step 2: Adding a new Frequently Asked Question
- Click Switch to Edit Site in the Edit Console
- If you are viewing a specially formatted list of Frequently Asked Questions, click Create New Page in the Edit Console and go to step 7.
- Click Create New Page (Choose Template) in the Edit Console
- Expand 0506 Templates
- Click FAQ
- Click the Select icon to the right of FAQ
- Enter the Answer to this question (you will enter the Questionlater) in the Edit Window provided.
- Click Save New Page in the Edit Console
- Enter a name for this posting in the Name text box. Web Services recommends that FAQ postings be named faqX, where X is a number that specifies the location of this question in the list of question. For example, your first question would use the Name faq1, your next question would use faq2 and so on. This makes the postings easy to sort using Sort Items in Channel.
- Enter the Questionin the Display Name text box.
- Click OK
- Click Approve in the Edit Console
- Repeat this step for each Questionyou want to have in this Frequently Asked Questions list
Sorting the Frequently Asked Questions List
Use Sort Items in Channel in the Edit Console to put the Questionspostings you created in Step 2 in the order you desire. Editing a Question
- If you are in Live Mode, click Switch to Edit Site in the Edit Console. All Questionsin the list now appear as links.
- Click on a Question to go to its posting.
- To change the Answer, click Edit in the Edit Console and edit the posting as normal.
- To change the Question, click Page Properties and change the Display Name of the posting.
