MIDCAT (Library Catalog)

Import text or .txt file.

1. Type go/midcat or go/library in your browser’s URL box
2. Search MIDCAT; mark records by clicking in the Save boxes.
3. Click the Save marked records button.
4. Click the View saved button at top or bottom of screen.
5. Click the Export saved button
6. Choose both: Endnote/RefWorks ; Local Disk.
7. Click Submit.
8. In the dialog box, choose Save.
9. Name the file and save to desktop or another convenient folder.

RefWorks: Import text file

1. In a new browser window, open your RefWorks account.
2. Go to the References menu and select Import.
3. These are the settings necessary to import a text file into RefWorks:

· Import filter: “Innovative Interfaces (Endnote/RefWorks format).” Be careful to make this exact choice-- not the filter with shorter title “Innovative Interfaces Innopac.”

· Database: “Endnote/RefWorks format.”

· Import references into: Leave setting as is.

· Make sure Import Data from the following text file is checked. Click Browse button and select the text file (.txt) you saved earlier.

· Encoding: “Unicode.”

1. Click the Import button; then click View last imported folder to verify that information is complete.
2. Once your references are in RefWorks, click View Last Imported Folder and check the references for accuracy. Then you may wish to move them to a specific folder. Note: as of 9/15/07 there are some major errors in the imported information, such as duplicate names and duplicate publishing information. Check references carefully.
