Preprints
The fields of chemistry and biochemistry do not yet make extensive use of preprints as a medium for distributing new research. Two preprint gateways are Stanford's Preprints and Working Papers and the U.S. Department of Energy's E-PRINT Network. Brown University and Los Alamos National Laboratory sponsor the Chemical Physics Preprint Database.
Technical Reports
Technical reports are very focused reports of funded research projects. They are not usually put through a validation process before release. Depending upon the circumstances of the project, the authors may later rewrite the results and submit that paper to a scholarly journal for publication.
