UN Common Database (Statistics)
Provides over 300 statistical series from 30 specialized international data sources for all available countries and areas. Provides a diverse range of topics including socio-economic, environmental, health, etc. statistics. In most cases time series are available from 1970 or 1980. NOT ACCESSIBLE FROM OFF-CAMPUS.
UN Monthly Bulletin of Statistics (password needed)
International statistics, usually given for the last several years and for last year by month. Includes gross domestic product, labor force, prices, industry, mining, energy, manufacturing, construction, finance (money supply, government bonds, discount rates, short-term rates, gold reserves), trade, transport and population. To use, call Reference Desk at ext. 5496 for username and password.
Eurostat
Eurostat is the Statistical Office of the European Communities. It provides free publications and statistics that enable comparisons between European countries and regions. Includes economic, social, population, health, environment, and other topics.

Access to all Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) Statistical Databases (except IEA Databases); all OECD E-books, and all OECD periodicals. Topics include: economics (including trade and development); environment; agriculture; energy; science & technology; education; migration; health; and more. Note: For statistics, the search feature only searches the descriptions of statistical databases. To find specific data, choose the appropriate database or use the INDEX OF STATISTICAL VARIABLES. OECD Main Economic Indicators
1960 onward (annual, quarterly, monthly statistics). Includes quarterly national accounts, business surveys, retail sales, industrial production, construction, consumer prices, total employment, unemployment rates, interest rates, money and domestic finance, foreign finance, foreign trade, and balance of payments. Note: Data in the first option are country specific.  For Country comparisons, use the 2nd option (Comparative Tables). Read the abstract for a description of specific variables and countries. OECD International Development Statistics
Includes External Debt Statistics for 168 - 198 countries and groups from 1975 - 2002 and Geographical Distribution of Financial Flows to Aid Recipients(some countries back to 1960). For the latter, see also the print version: Main Library Reference HC59.8 .G46
OECD Int'l Direct Investment Statistics
1980 onward.  Detailed historical statistics on international direct investment to and from the OECD area. Data are broken down by geographical zone (to and from partner countries and regions) and industrial sector for direct investment flows and stocks.
OECD Monthly Statistics of International Trade
1960 onward.  Trends in trading patterns among OECD countries and with the rest of the world. Data are broken down by economic groupings, by country and by region, and include seasonally adjusted series as well as calculated indicators.
OECD Revenue Statistics of Member Countries
1960's onward. Presents detailed and internationally comparable tax data in a common format for all OECD countries.  Includes Social Security.  Also in PRINT.  Main Library Reference HJ2279 .R49
OECD Taxing Wages Statistics
Dates vary.  Provides income tax and social security contributions levied from employees and their employers in all OECD countries and specifies family benefits paid as cash transfers. Program details provided for 8 household types which differ by income level and household composition. Includes marginal and effective tax burden for single- and double-income families, and total labour costs of employers.
Bloomberg (on dedicated library computer)
The Bloomberg service is now offered on a dedicated terminal behind the Reference Desk of the Main Library.  It offers financial information on companies, delayed stock quotes, analysis of U.S. and international securities, economic indicators, international news, and more.  It is restricted to users affiliated with the College.  Ask at the Reference Desk for the login instructions and passwords.
CountryWatch
Provides geopolitical intelligence on each of the 192 countries of the world. Middlebury's premium package includes Country Review; Country Wire (news); CountryWatch Data; CountryWatch Map Collection; CountryWatch@school. Note: most data is only accessible thru the Data link at the top of the page.

Annual Macro Economic Data Base from the European Commission, Economic and Financial Affairs. 
IMF International Financial Statistics (CD-Rom)
IMF survey of major financial statistics. Obtain at the Reserves desk(call# HG61 I5) and load on a computer in the lab (Insert in drive, when it automatically opens, click on the installation button.  Choose single-user, retrieve data from CD). Global Development Finance (Print Only)

UN Comtrade
United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database.  Free access to trade data since 1962.  Middlebury does not subscribe to download features.
Trade CAN CD-Rom
Published by the World Bank/ECLAC. Designed to analyze international, national, and regional competitiveness in commodities and manufactured exports. The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) provides access to a large archive of social science data files for use with statistical software, such as SAS or SPSS.  For assistance in downloading, contact Mike Lynch (ext. 5205).
ICPSR's Bibliography of Data-Related Literature
Contains citations of publications that either uses data in the ICPSR holdings; or use ICPSR data in a comparison with the primary dataset investigated; or the publication is "about" an ICPSR dataset or study series.
Davidson Data Center & Network (DDCN)
"DDCN is an integrated, fully searchable database on transition and emerging markets. DDCN archives and provides free access to socio-economic micro and macro data on transition economies."
International Database
Demographic, and socio-economic data for 227 countries available from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Penn World Table
The Penn World Table provides purchasing power parity and national income accounts converted to international prices for 168 countries for some or all of the years 1950-2000. Produced by the Center for International Comparisons at the University of Pennsylvania. This link is to the easier to use interface from CHASS-Univ. of Toronto.
World Income Inequality Database (WIID)
Provides statistics on income inequality for developed, developing, and transition countries.  Includes the Gini coefficient and quintile and decile shares, survey means and medians along with the income shares of the richest 5% and the poorest 5%. Use the download link.  From United Nations Univ. and World Inst. for Development Economics Research (WIDER).
Groningen Growth & Development Centre Databases
Historical data (1950+) freely available for download.  Databases include Total Economy Database (GDP, Population, Employment, Hours); 60 Industry Database (industrial performance at a detailed industry level for OECD countries & Taiwan). IPUMS (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series)
"Census microdata for social and economic research" from the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota. Provides access to two databases: IPUMS-USA (1850-2004) and IPUMS-International.

Statistics from the United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization - Institute for Statistics.  Choose Data Centre to access statistical tables.
Uppsala Conflict Database (UCDP)
Commentary and facts on armed conflicts around the world since 1989.  Updated annually (free database from Uppsala Universitet). Alternative version (structured for quantitative analysis).
