If you knew Time as well as I do,
you wouldn't talk about wasting it.
- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Each topic is unique and may have different time implications, but consider at least large blocks of your project calendar. If you divide your time into thirds:
First Third |
Complete your prospectus and preliminary bibliography, submit most of your NExpress and Interlibrary loan requests, and begin reading what you have available. We strongly advise you use Refworks to manage your citations and create your bibliography. Remember that books received through interlibrary loan are generally available to you for 3 to 4 weeks and may not be renewed so think about staggering your book requests. However books received through NExpress can be renewed, if not requested by someone else. Schedule a research consultation with a librarian. |
| Second Third |
Continue to add to your bibliography. Be sure to consult the bibliographies of relevant books and articles you find, as these often identify key works and may include items you have missed in your search. Complete NExpress and Interlibrary loan requests. Schedule regular meetings with your advisor. Read, take notes, cite, and write. |
Third Third |
Continue meetings with your advisor. READ, WRITE, CITE, REVISE, and POLISH. Prepare final text and bibliography. |
