1985-present. Choose one or both components: Science Citation Index (SCI) or Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).

SCI is the best source for articles in core science and technology research journals, and it is very good in environmental science. SSCI covers core social science research journals. Search by keywords, authors, or cited articles. Special features include links to cited and related articles. Go shortcut = go/wos

Interdisciplinary article index covering all subjects in over 10,000 academic-related journals and magazines (the majority with full-text).  Includes all the content of Expanded Academic Index ASAPCoverage: 1980 - present. Also includes New York Times full-text content back to 1995.
Environment Index
1950's - present.  Indexes 1,500 domestic & international journals (and some monographs). Topics include: agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Formerly called Environmental Policy Index.
Enviroline (password needed)
1975-current.  International coverage of primary and secondary source materials.  You must complete an instruction session and access this database from a Library computer. GPO Access (Gov't Printing Office)
Gateway to U.S. government documents which includes the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, 1976-current.  Useful for identifying government documents not owned by Middlebury (and thus not in Midcat) but available via interlibrary loan.
NCSE / E&E Publications
National Council for Science & the Environment (NCSE) and E & E Publishing environmental publications. Includes access to Environment & Energy Daily, Greenwire, and Land Letter. Includes current news stories, reports, legislative summaries, etc. related to environmental and energy policy.
Biological and Agricultural Index
1983-current, electronic.   Very selective: covers 250 English-language journals in biology and agriculture.  Searchable via Dialog on Library computers; ask the Science Librarian for assistance.
Agricola (OCLC FirstSearch interface)
1970-current. Comprehensive coverage of agricultural fields, including biology of plants, animals, and microorganisms of economic importance.

Indexes journals, books, and documents covering global public policy and social issues in all disciplines. 1972 - current. OSTI
Selective coverage, as far back as 1948.  The US Department of Energy's Office of Scientific & Technical Information (OSTI) provides several databases in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and energy. You can search for citations in government-funded energy research from 1948, for full-text research reports from 1995, for article citations in scientific journals, and in full-text preprint servers hosting unpublished papers.
Energy Citations Database
The Energy Citations Database (ECD) contains bibliographic records for energy and energy-related STI from the Department of Energy (DOE) and its predecessor agencies. Disciplines covered include chemistry, physics, materials, environmental science, geology, engineering, mathematics, climatology, oceanography, computer science and related disciplines. It includes citations to report literature, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and patents. Coverage: 1948 - current.
TRIS: Transportation Research Information Services
TRIS Online provides access to records of published transportation research through a searchable database. "Over 470 serial publications are regularly indexed and abstracted for the database." TRIS is a project of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the Transportation Research board, available from the Nat'l Transportation Library.

EcoAméricas
EcoAméricas : A Monthly Report on Development and the Environment in Latin America is available in English and in Spanish, back to Nov. 1998.
AccessScience (McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology Online)
Provides authoritative information for non-specialists on a wide variety of science-related topics. Includes the 20-volume McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific & Technical Terms and the Yearbooks of Science & Technology in addition to biographies from the Hutchinson Dictionary of Scientific Biography, selected Science News articles, and links to evaluated web sites.
