Students who write a thesis or graduate dissertation or who complete a senior work project may be nominated by their department to have the work retained in digital form as part of the College's Institutional Repository. LIS encourages all honors theses and other projects that merit attention to be included in the IR.

Submission Form

Students should print & complete a senior work submission form (available as a Word document or PDF file ), including:
  • student name
  • title of the work
  • keywords that may be used to describe work
  • department name
  • date
  • selection of "open Internet access" or "restricted to Middlebury community" (via username password; at present, limited to current students, staff, and faculty)
Return the form to Library & Information Services (as directed on the form).

Submit the DIGITAL Senior work

Your final version of the senior work should be submitted via email to LIS.  See the email address given on the submission form. It may be submitted as a Word document or a PDF document.

If necessary, LIS will convert a Word document to PDF form before uploading to the IR. We double check to make sure pagination matches that of the original Word document.

Please note that a printed copy of an honors thesis or graduate dissertation should also be submitted according to departmental and LIS guidelines.

Copyright

The author retains copyright of the work, while granting Middlebury the right to make a copy of the work to post to the Institutional Repository.

If an author wishes to make the work more broadly available, a  Creative Commons license may be applied to it. This would, for example, entitle a reader to copy a thesis for non-commercial purposes while giving full attribution to the author. If this option is desired, please consult with the LIS Policy Advisor, Jeff Rehbach, ext. 5811.
