Batool Khattab received her M.A. and Ph.D. in English literature (theater studies) at the Faculty of Languages at Ain Shams University, Cairo. She twice was awarded a Fulbright fellowship: a pre-doctoral grant at the University of Washington School of Drama in 2000 and a post-doctoral grant at the City University of New York (CUNY) in 2007. In Egypt she taught English as a second language, translation from English into Arabic and vice versa, literature, and English. She also has served as a freelance translator. Currently, she teaches Arabic language and culture at Williams College, where she has taught Arabic language courses at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. She also has offered courses on contemporary Arab culture in translation and on media Arabic at the advanced level. Ms. Khattab’s research interests include contemporary Egyptian theater and issues of cultural hybridity and identity post 9/11.
