Ghazi Abuhakema
Ghazi Abuhakema is an assistant professor and coordinator of the Arabic program at the College of Charleston. Ghazi earned a B.A. at al-Yarmouk University, a teaching certificate and translation diploma from Birzeit University, an M.A. in teaching English as a second language from St. Michael’s College, and a Ph.D. in applied linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. He is the founding dean of the Arabic Language Village in Minnesota, and he has taught Arabic at various levels at UT Austin, Montclair State University, the College of Charleston, and Middlebury College during both the academic year and the intensive summer program. Ghazi’s interests include the role of culture in learning a foreign language and theories of language acquisition in the education of heritage and non-heritage learners. He is an ACTFL certified Oral Proficiency Interview tester and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the American Association for Teachers of Arabic, and the Middle East Studies Association.
