Sarab A. Al Ani earned a B.A. and an M.A. in linguistics and pragmatics from the University of Baghdad. After moving to the United States she received a second M.A. from Mercyhurst College and wrote her thesis on using mnemonics in teaching Arabic as a second language. She worked at Baghdad University teaching linguistics, pragmatics, morphology, and phonology and was a member of the Iraqi Translation Association. She also taught Arabic as a second language at Mercyhurst College, Michigan State University, and the Middlebury College Arabic School. She currently is interested in using OPI measures as criteria to be taken into consideration when teaching Arabic as a second language.
