Enrico Bernard
Enrico Bernard (Rome, 1955).
Playwriter, essayist, filmdirector, translator. In 1980 he graduated in
philosophy with an essay on "Ideologia piccolo borghese e violenza politica
in Germania da Lutero ad oggi" (published bt Editori Associati, 1986).
He is the editor of "Autori e drammaturgie", first encyclopedia of the
italian contemporary theatre.
He wrote 22 plays, of wich 12 have ben staged and traslated in german,
french, english.
In 1992 he founded the "Teatro S-naturalista" writing its "Manifesto", that
has been included in Dario Fo and Franca Rame's web-site

In 1998 he made a film based on his work "Un mostro di nome Lila" casting
an ungarian sexystar. The film caused quite a sensation at Locarno's
filmfestival and it is considered as cult-movie, one of the most relevant
examples of synthesis between cinema, theatre and erotism in a surrealistic
view. Subsequently he made another film entitled "Il giuoco dei sensi",
nominated at the Alternative Filmfestival and presented at the University
of Bologna as an example of exploitation of modern digital technologies in
the transposition from theatre to cinema.
He his author of the story and screenplay of Franco Nero's new film
"Forever blues".
Enrico Bernard traslated in Italian from German Ludwig Tieck, von
Chamisso, Eckermann and Grabbe's works.
He has been invited several times in the United States and Canada to hold
conferences, stages and seminars at the Universities and Schools of
Middlebury, Toronto, Mississagua and Kingstone.
Several of his poetic works and essays have been published on italian
literary reviews.
He wrote a novel on "Tamerlano" s life.
