Middlebury College's Intensive Italian Summer Language Program is excellent for anyone interested in studying the language and in learning more about the Italian culture. I attended the program and had an incredible learning experience. I became more proficient in the language and was able to speak in just seven short weeks. The structure of the program includes several hours in class as well as an array of extracurricular activities that faciliate one's total immersion. The most important feature of the program is the language pledge, a binding contract aimed at insuring that all students in the program use Italian at all times. I plan to return again to further my studies in the Italian language and literature."

Attending Middlebury College Language School is a terrific experience. The Italian program is downright rigorous. The level of commitment and dedication is phenomenal. Professors and students relentlessly go to any possible extent to challenge and instill inspiration in one another. The result is a tremendous feeling of accomplishment and pride embedded in an immense personal growth."

There has never been any doubt that I would not return to the Italian School at Middlebury College for the summer of '96. Particularly enticing were the three week programs offered by the Institute, which gave me the opportunity to enhance my professional preparation as a foreign language teacher. Furthermore, the computer class taken last summer enriched my knowledge and I was able to update my teaching technique in the classroom to the delight of my Italian and Spanish students."

There are 3 reasons why I would choose Middlebury's Italian program:
- the very intensive and wisely-designed program that lets you make the most out of your time;
- the incredible diversity of people you meet and, at the same time, the sense of community and cooperation you experience with those people;
- the stupendous mountains of Vermont that greet you with their unearthly colors every morning as you go to classes;
Mark Twain said "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." I am pretty sure he would have made an exception for the Middlebury College program. You feel like letting this kind of schooling "interfere" with your education, because the schooling here contributes to your education, both linguistic and spiritual; the schooling here is (!) education - invaluable and unique."

The Italian School's Master in Italian program came highly recommended to me by my friends and colleagues who have attended courses at Middlebury College. I have studied in North America and in Italy, but I feel that there is a good selection of courses offered here. The professors come from different parts of the world, have diverse backgrounds, and are always available as well as supportive. We are like a big family in the Italian School; we join together for many activities, such as meals, movies, picnics, soccer games, parties, discussions, etc. My experience has been extremely positive; the skills and knowledge gained will help me in my teaching career."

It is an honor for me to be enrolled as a graduate student in the Italian School at Middlebury College for several reasons. First of all, Middlebury has an outstanding reputation: it is regarded as one of the best schools in the world in the field of foreign languages. I am fortunate and grateful to be associated with such a fine institution.
Second, since all the students and faculty members must use Italian as the only means of communication, the atmosphere here is extremely intense and intellectually challenging. However, it is very enjoyable as well because of the close-knit relationships between the students and professors which usually develop during the summer session and last forever. At least this is true in my particular case. In fact, we become a big family because we live, eat and go to classes and other extra-curricular activities together all the time so we're all immersed in the Italian language and culture which makes being at Middlebury fun!!
Third, I am a handicapped student and have had very little difficulty getting around campus. For the most part it's accessible and in those rare places where it's not, the administration has been helpful in its attempts to provide accessible alternatives. Besides, people are usually nice and willing to lend a hand if necessary. Therefore, I would highly recommend Middlebury College as a wonderful school for anyone who would like to pursue a career in the field of foreign languages!!"

Why spend your summer vacation studying languages at Middlebury? Because you won't find so many outstanding professors together in the same place anywhere else. The professors here are not only recognized as experts in their fields, but they are also enthusiastic about teaching students. It's hard to find both of those qualities in professors at the larger universities in the United States, but here at Middlebury you can count on it!"

Learning a foreign language at Middlebury College during the summer is a unique experience. Where else can one find students from all over the country and from all over the world studying in 8 different languages in a place as beautiful as Middlebury, Vermont?
The professors are superb; the facilities are state-of-the-art. The backbone of the program is the language pledge in which all students sign and vow to communicate solely in the language of their school. In my opinion, it's the only way to learn a foreign language, for you are constrained to search for new vocabulary and different ways to express yourself.
Middlebury College tries to incorporate cultural activities as an essential part of learning a foreign language. The Italian school provides Italian movies, political discussions, bocce ball and of course, lots of pasta. No other college in the United States has a similar program. If you love learning foreign languages and like to have fun doing it, Middlebury College Language School is the closest you'll come without actually having to leave the continental United States."
